Thomas "Tom" Joseph Vahey Jr.

Thomas Joseph Vahey Jr., 61 of Marlborough died on Friday, May 21, 2021, at Marlborough Hospital after a short battle with illness.

He was born in Framingham as the son of the late Thomas Vahey Sr. of Framingham, who passed away in 2012, and Shirley (Allen) Vahey. He graduated from Marian High School, class of 1978, and earned his BA at Bentley University, class of 1983. He worked as the Senior Director of Global Training Delivery at EMC (and later Dell EMC) for 40 years retiring in 2018 and was a truly loved and inspirational leader to many over those years.

Tom was the beloved husband of Cynthia Morgan Vahey of Marlborough, together raising 3 beautiful children: Christopher and his wife Irasema of Boston, Ryan of Marlborough, and Kaitlyn Vahey of Clinton. He was also survived by his 2 sisters, Lisa Kawakami and her husband Seiji, and Linda Steele and her husband Derek, all of Framingham as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his brother John “Jack” Vahey in February 2021. Not only is Tom leaving behind many family members, but also countless close friends.

Tom was a great family man who did everything he could to ensure the well-being and happiness of his wife, children, and mother. He coached Chris and Ryan’s youth hockey teams winning various championships and was a board member for Triboro Youth Hockey for many years. Tom always enjoyed attending Katie’s cheerleading competitions. He was a lover of his garden and flowers, for many years yielding an impressive lot of tomato plants, peppers, and many other vegetables. He and his family spent summer vacations in Maine and Cape Cod, as Tom’s happy place outside his garden was the beach. Tom was a brilliant man who did everything he wanted in life with the people he loved and is painfully missed.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday May 26 from 5-8pm in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St. Marlborough.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday May 27, at 11:00 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St. Marlborough. Following cremation, a private graveside service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson St. Marlborough.
