Richard D. Metivier Sr., 69, lost a courageous battle with leukemia on August 14, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born in Hudson, son of the late Donald and Pauline (Tremblay) Metivier and lived in Marlborough until moving to Worcester in 1989.

Richard is survived by his wife Donna (St. George) Metivier to whom he was married for 49 years., two sons; Richard Metivier Jr. and his girlfriend Autum Kukowski of Holden and Keith Metivier and his girlfriend Lucinda Wolfe of Worcester, three grandsons; Alex, Zachary, Ryan, a sister Diane McGuiness of Worcester, a brother in law Paul St. George, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother James Metivier, a sister Donna Hurley and a sister-in-law Cheryl St. George.

Richard was a graduate of Marlborough High School class of 1968. He served the city of Marlborough as a police officer for 12 years. Upon retiring from the police department, he went on to work for many other companies including McNeill Engineering, Radant Technologies, Raytheon, and Knights Limousine.

Richard had a great love of sports. Nothing brought him more joy than watching his three grandsons play.  Whether it be on the sidelines of the soccer field, football field, or sitting in the stands watching baseball – Richard would be there with his beloved pup Toffee, supporting his grandsons and chatting amongst other fans.  He was a former coach and member of the board of directors of Marlborough Youth Baseball Association.  Richard possessed the “Gift of Gab” and had the capability to strike up conversation with anyone allowing him to make an abundance of friends.

Funeral arrangements are being planned for a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the UMass Memorial Cancer Center, 55 Lake Ave. North, Worcester, MA 01655.

The entire Metivier family would like to thank and praise the UMass Oncology Department for the outstanding care Richard received throughout his battle.
