Marjory L. (Straw) Carpenter

Marjory L. (Straw) Carpenter, 90, of Marlborough, passed peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Eliot Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Natick, MA, with loving family by her side.  Marjory was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Lawrence G. Carpenter in 2002.  She is survived by her 2 children, Debbie Rowe and her husband Rik of Marlborough, her son, Ken Carpenter and his wife Shauna Moore of Moultonborough, NH, 5 grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, Scott, Sarah, Beckett, and 5 great grandchildren, Nasan, Kiana, Zayn, Louisa, and Tillman, as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Barbara Somerville of Southborough and Janice O’Leary of Marlborough.

Marjory was born in Marlborough MA, the daughter of the late Stanley and Blanche (Potter) Straw.  She graduated from Marlborough High School’s Class of 1950 and earned her BA in Teaching from Framingham State College in 1954.  Marjory was first employed at Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg, MA as a Dietician, where she met her husband.  After their marriage, Larry enlisted in the Air Force, and was stationed at Harlingen Air Force Base in southern Texas, where he served for three years as a flightline mechanic, and where their daughter, Debbie was born.  They eventually arrived back in Massachusetts where they lived in Fayville, MA until purchasing a home in Marlborough, where Marge lived until 2011, when she moved to Hudson until 2023.  Marge’s passion was singing.  She sang for over 75 years as a soloist and with several different groups, both in and outside of church.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, with whom she was able to spend their annual 2022 summer vacation, and holidays.  Marge was a Foods Teacher at Marlborough High School for over 20 years, from which she retired in 1994.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 4-6 p.m. in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough, MA

A Funeral Service will be held in Pilgrim Congregational Church, 15 Common St. Southborough, MA at 9:30 followed by burial in Rural Cemetery, Southborough, MA.
