Marie J. (Cunningham) Viklund

              Marie J. (Cunningham) Viklund, 94, passed away peacefully Thursday January 28, 2021 after a brief illness.  She was the wife of the late Hans Viklund who died in 2000.  She was born in Medford, the daughter of the late Ira C. and Astrid (Anderson) Cunningham.  Marie moved to Marlborough 57 years ago from Watertown.  The past 17 years she has resided at New Horizons in Marlboro where she had many good friends.

              Marie is survived by two sons and three daughters: Diane Nikstenas of Grafton, Carl Viklund and his wife Lisa of Princeton, Carol Levine and her husband Bob of Marlborough, Mark Viklund and his wife Robin of New Milford CT, and Laura Marchetta and her husband Bob of Northborough.  She also leaves eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a brother Richard Cunningham of Lancaster, a sister Anne (Cunningham) Sudanowicz of Winthrop, a sister-in-law Sandy (Viklund) Ryan of Braintree, and many nieces and nephews.   Besides her husband she was predeceased by a son-in-law David Nikstenas, one sister, three brothers, and several brother and sister in laws.

              Marie, referred to lovingly as Mom or Grammie by her kids and grandkids, devoted her life to her family and worried about them until her final breath. In addition to her devotion to her family she retired from Jordan Marsh in Framingham where she worked for 25 years. Mom/Grammie loved following the Red Sox, coloring inspirational pictures, collecting cookbooks, shopping on QVC, enjoyed daily consumption of candy, and was the family’s favorite weather lady.  Her greatest pleasure was visits and daily phone calls from her family.  We love you and will miss you Mom/Grammie!    

              A special thank you to Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care of our Mom/Grammie since December 8, 2020 where she was when she passed.
