We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Short & Rowe Funeral Home
Lois E. (Johnson) Smith, 84 of Northborough and formerly of Marlborough died on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Beaumont of Northborough surrounded by her loving family.
Lois was born in Marlborough, the daughter of the late Irving L. and Helen (Logan) Johnson. Lois graduated high school from St. Michael’s Academy in Hudson and worked as an L.P.N. at the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Marlboro for many years. Prior to that she worked at the Marlboro Enterprise newspaper and several other clerical positions.
Lois and husband Bill were both very involved with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts when son Bob was a member. They both were also members of the Assabet Valley CB radio club in the 1960’s and 70’s that performed many community services. They loved to spend weekends at their camp trailer at Laurel Lake in Fitzwilliam NH. One of Bill’s greatest loves was fishing in the lake.
Lois loved nothing better than spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved to play Bingo and to crochet and was an avid reader. During her time at Beaumont, her friends will remember her as someone that always won at Bingo, loved to wear lots of bracelets, was always smiling and kind, and loved to have her nails painted fire engine red. Lois was a lifelong animal lover, beginning with her dog Skippy as a young child, followed by several cats and parakeets during her life.
Lois is survived by her son, Robert W. Smith, and his wife Helen; her daughter Karen M. Bates and her husband Ed all of Marlborough; 6 grandchildren, Amanda, Angela, Stacey, Brian, Tiffaney and Victoria; 11 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Alexis, Jordan, Ryan, Zoey, Joey, Rowan, Nolan, Harper, Savannah, and Bryson.
Lois was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William E. Smith in 2011 and her sister Karen White.
Memorial Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough, MA.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd, at 11 a.m. in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson, MA.
