Ernest "Jim" W. Daley

Ernest “Jim” W. Daley Jr., 93 of Marlborough died at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 6, 2021.

He was born in Marlborough, the son of the late Ernest and Helen (Reeves) Daley. He graduated from Marlborough High School, Class of ’47 and attended Worcester State College and Boston University.

Jim was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Serving as a Cryptologist during the Korean War from 1950-1954. He worked in Insurance for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol E. (Lafleur) Daley of Marlborough; a daughter, Ellen M. Mahoney and her husband Mark of Scottsdale, AZ; a son Timothy P. Daley and his long-time girlfriend Lindsay Ann Monroe of Marlborough; 2 granddaughters, Erin Elizabeth Mahoney and Meghan Mary Mahoney as well as many nieces and nephews, especially his niece Kit Josephson.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Beth Daley in 1984; 2 brothers William and Norman; 2 sisters, Hazel Hughes and Delma Manning.

Jim was a member of the Marlborough Country Club for over 50 years, he enjoyed sports especially baseball and football and had season tickets to the N.E. Patriots for 20 years. He was one of the original 4 founders of the United Way of Marlborough; was a member of the A.O.H. serving as Treasurer for 27 years. He served on the Board of Directors for the Marlborough Girls Club and volunteered coordinating the rebuilding of the Girl’s Club after the fire in 1994. He also coached basketball for the Marlborough Boy’s Club. Jim received the J.J. Bradley Award “Father of the Year in 1987. One of his fondest memories was attending the Masters Golf Tournament in 1998 and 1999.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson St., Marlborough.
