Paul James Murphy, 71, of Marlborough, MA, died with his family by his side at West Roxbury VA Medical Center Hospital on Friday, November 22, 2019.
As a volunteer, Paul served with distinction in the US Army from 1967 to 1970. Stationed in Vietnam with the 9th Infantry Division from September 1968 to September 1969 as a forward observer, he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, and many other medals and honors.
After being honorably discharged at the rank of Captain, Paul earned a B.A. from Brooklyn College in New York and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in Cambridge, MA. He was C.F.O. for a number of technology firms, several of which he helped take public. After retiring, he supported V.F.W. Post 9013 in Westborough, MA where he served as Commander.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Barrett Murphy; children, Paul Jefferson Murphy of Washington, DC, Jackie Russo of Upton, MA and husband, Chris Russo, Melissa Murphy of Worcester, MA and partner, Casey O’Connor; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kristina and Kathleen Russo and Raymond O’Connor; mother, Marie T. Murphy of New Hampton, NY; brother, James Hennessy of Howard Beach, NY and wife, MaryJo, brother, Peter Murphy of Ventnor, NJ and wife, Sonya, sister, Marie Hartman of New Hampton, NY and husband Henry; Linda’s children, Leah Cohen McDormand of Atlanta, GA, Ian Cohen of Burlington, VT. Paul is predeceased by his birthmother, Thelma E. Murphy, his father, Edward P. Murphy, and younger brother Eddie Murphy.
Paul was an award-winning senior golfer who made an annual excursion to Florida sampling as many links as he could on the way and back. He also found relaxation casting a hook into the ponds of the Marlboro Fish & Game
Services scheduled for Mr. Murphy have been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.
